The Granular project is all about a celebration of human-made music in changing times. Here at Granular, our focus is on the artist. What inspires them? What drives them to create and explore their craft? In an era where it gets easier every day to cut corners with music and still get results, we want to highlight artists that are pushing through, digging deep, and contributing to one of the oldest human traditions. So let's get Granular, discover the artists that are getting it done, and push forward for our craft.
Our platform has 3 main sections:
Getting Granular focuses on the artist that is getting serious about their music. These artists are working to hone their craft and are creating amazing music in the process. In this section we highlight a submitted track or album and hear from the artists themselves about their work. How was it made? What drives them? What makes them unique? Getting Granular is where you, the reader, get to discover all of that for yourself.
Granular-ed is where we shine a spotlight on artists that we think deserve special recognition. Artists get into this section by invite only, either by being personally discovered by our writers or through their submission in the Getting Granular section. Every artist here has stood out in some way and embodies our ideals here at Granular. Whether its through incredible music, groundbreaking writing and production, cultural importance, or the message the artist sends with their craft, these artists have truly earned their spot in the Granular-ed section.
Granularity gives artists, producers, and industry pros the opportunity to speak their mind about topics in the music world that matter. These articles are reviewed by our team, but the writing is entirely done by our guests. This column allows these guest writers to tell their story, talk about something that they think needs a platform, and engage in conversation with our readers.
Our Writers
Walt West
Writer, Producer, Talent Seeker
Walt West is a musician, professional songwriter, music creator, A&R and artist development professional with decades of experience working across multiple sides of the music industry. A former professional touring musician, Walt has also operated a booking agency and produced more than 100 songs, giving him firsthand experience as both a creator and a music-business professional.
Today, Walt works in A&R and artist development while building a growing community around music discovery, live music reviews, artist development, and industry connection. Through his live platform, he works directly with independent artists, providing music and production feedback while creating opportunities for artists to be discovered, developed, and connected with the broader music ecosystem.
Granular grew from that work — a publication dedicated to going deeper into music and the people behind it. From emerging artists to established acts and the songwriters, producers, executives, managers, and other professionals shaping the industry, Walt’s goal is to create a place where great music, meaningful stories, and real industry knowledge can be discovered.
