John 3:16 by Elliot Poston
Elliot Poston is, in all uses of the word, a dedicated man. Dedicated to his wife and kids, his faith, and his values as a South Carolina native, he is clear proof that authenticity and hard work is what people are looking for in modern country. Poston has been a musician since 15 when he began singing in church, picking up the guitar at 17 because, and I quote, he “figured ladies would be much more attracted to a guy who could sing AND play guitar versus just singing.” His life has been filled with that classic southern charm, and his music is a genuine tribute to that fact.

After 20 years of leading worship, Poston decided he wanted to chase country music as a career. Speaking right to his dedication to his family, his main reason for getting back into music was to encourage his children to chase their own dreams too. “John 3:16” is directly rooted in this story, discussing his struggles with his faith journey and his inevitable acceptance of religion in his life. Musically, “John 3:16” reflects this struggle, with tense chords continuously pushing towards resolution whenever Poston mentions the scripture. The track does a solid job of matching the authenticity of Poston’s story, something that can be lacking in modern country music.

It’s no wonder that his music has been gaining traction. Since his launch in 2024 with “The Country Way”, Elliot Poston has gotten radio play, is regularly playing shows in South Carolina and the surrounding states, and has even passed 7500 monthly listeners on Spotify. Poston is definitely one to watch in the coming years. Personally, I’d like to see him travel beyond his immediate area, and I think he’d see a lot of success touring the Midwest with his down-to-earth approach towards his music. Whatever he chooses to do, you know it’s going to be authentic, raw, and a reflection of his own South Carolinian roots.
