“Thats Not Who I Am” by daniel is bored
Being able to write a song that is introspective and existential AND makes the listener want to dance is not something that is common among songwriters, yet ‘daniel is bored’ has found a way to make it happen. “That’s Not Who I Am” is genuinely one of those songs that makes you want to drop what you’re doing and groove, while also having a ‘sitting on the bus looking out the window longingly’ vibe to it. In Daniel’s own words, he’s “always been introspective about my place in this world. I think that's why I gravitate towards making music that reflects something existential about life, love and the loneliness that may come from it.” And Daniel, I must say, you definitely achieved your goal with “That’s Not Who I Am”.

Daniel’s story begins in Puerto Rico, surrounded by music from birth. In his interview, he recalls stories of his mother playing guitar while she was pregnant with him. He remembers the first time he understood how powerful music can be, when his brother’s friend expertly played the cuatro, putting feeling into every note as he played. Music has always been a part of his life, and you can tell how invested he is with every word he sings.
In the past, Daniel would write songs for himself, but his musical journey really picked up with his band, Versomudo. He started writing songs for them as well, and this is when he realized that writing music is something he needs to do, stating that it’s a form of therapy for him. Daniel takes a lot of care to convey emotional weight throughout his song, all while maintaining a solid groove. Every aspect of his music is intentional, from the choice to play every instrument himself to being purposeful about his arrangements. “That’s Not Who I Am” discusses the realization of the person you become after a relationship ends and coming to terms with how things are now. It elaborates on this with the idea that this isn’t just a one-time thing, and is in fact a cycle you go through in your life.
Daniel has only released two tracks under his solo artist name, ‘daniel is bored’, but don’t take that as a flaw. The level of care he puts into his music is something to admire, and I hope that doesn’t change with the album he is currently working on. His solo career is just starting, but Daniel is definitely one to watch!
